Job Description:

The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is responsible for providing timely, non-judgmental, compassionate, and trauma-informed care to the sexual assault, domestic violence, IPV, and/or trafficking victim requesting services. This is under minimal supervision and in accord with the Texas Nurse Practice Act, all confidentiality laws and policies, and professional nursing standards. This will include a medical forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases when indicated, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support, and participation in legal proceedings.

Although the first priority is medical care, the SANE/FNE’s role is both medical and forensic: to detect and treat injury and disease and to collect evidence. The SANE/FNE is expected to follow protocols, procedures, and/or policies established by the Medical Director and/or management of Bluebird’s Hope and to exercise professional judgment in utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.


  1. RN for at least 2 years, without restrictions or disciplinary actions from the Board of Nursing
  2. Completed approved didactic SANE program
  3. 15 Speculum / 20 Well Child Checks Completed
  4. Pass Federal Background Check
  5. Team members/Team Players
  6. Individual reliable transportation with automobile insurance coverage
  7. Individual Malpractice Insurance
